Even before America entered World War II, Hollywood found movies about the growing Nazi threat, box office gold. In the seven decades since December 7, 1941, Hollywood has churned out numerous War movies covering nearly all aspects of the War including the effect of the War on the home front, families, and the wounded. Eight of these movies won the Academy Award for best picture while others won Oscars for a variety of fields including best actor.

Join us with speaker Gary Augustine, as he returns to our group to tell us how over the seventy years since the War began, the portrayal of the War has evolved. From portraying the War in patriotic colors, to movies which poked fun at the military, to those depicting the horrors of the Holocaust, and to recent movies depicting the incredible violence those courageous servicemen and women confronted.

Our speaker, Gary Augustine is a historian, speaker and author. As a speaker, teacher, and writer, Gary has enjoyed a lifelong fascination with the people and events, which have shaped our World. He has spoken numerous times to a variety of groups including Civil War Roundtables, military history seminars, retirement communities and adult university learning programs. He has donned the headphones and appeared on radio talk shows to discuss the Civil War.

Over three hundred of his book reviews have been printed in various publications. Using primary sources, such World War II action reports, he has taught yearlong American, Civil War and World War II history classes to high school and adult students. A University of Chicago graduate and former Naval Officer, he spent his professional career working for IBM and PNC Bank. Gary last spoke to our group about Abraham Lincoln and his death.
